Reasons to be cheerful (about Living In Cyprus)

The climate is great! 340 days of gorgeous sunshine a year gives people an undeniable feel good factor, and it is also one of the healthiest places in the world.
The general price level of property has remained low compared to the UK or other developed EU countries such as Spain.
Cyprus is classified as a tax efficient location with numerous tax advantages you can enjoy including: Capital Gains Tax at only 20%; Corporation Tax at just10% (Property and Contracts can be held in a Cypriot Limited Company); Pensions from abroad being subject to a flat 5% rate. There is also a double taxation treaty eliminating double taxation for foreigners.
The legal, property and banking systems are based on the UK systems.
Easy access to and from the UK, Europe and other destinations with over 30 major airlines servicing the two main international airports in Paphos and Larnaca.
The food is so tasty – and healthy. Cyprus grows its own fruit, and it shows. Personally, I never used to eat vegetables very much until I came here.
The locals are very kindly disposed to the British, in fact 90% of the population speak English. All road signs and restaurant menus are written in both languages.

Excellent inexpensive medical facilities. People come here for medical treatment especially dentistry.
Driving on the sensible side, that is, the right side.
Golf courses, marinas and sports clubs.
Excellent educational facilities
Good transport links – all towns are connected by good roads and there are two international airports.
There is significant investment in the infrastructure, including new Golf Courses, Marinas and Casinos.
Residents in Cyprus enjoy a crime-free environment with very little corruption. Cyprus has the lowest crime rate in Europe.

Another note on crime. I inadvertently left my expensive laptop open to view on the back seat of my car on two occasions. And forgot to lock the car. What would have happened if I had done this in London? Crime is virtually unheard of here. It’s a place that reflects the UK some thirty years ago. Kids can go out and play in the streets and you don’t have to worry about them. You can walk anywhere at any time day or night. People leave their cars and houses unlocked.
